CPO Network Meeting #1 - Preparing for the Norwegian Transparency Act
This practical session will be a two part event:  The first part will feature a panel discussion and Q&A providing insights on Åpenhetsloven (the Norwegian Transparency Act) due to enter into force in on July 1st 2022.

The session will feature remarks from three different speakers including:
  • Caroline Dale Ditlev-Simonsen, Professor at Institutt for rettsvitenskap og styring, BI Business School - will provide an updated overview of the legislation;
  • Bjart Thorkil Pedersen, Manager Sustainable Sourcing, NorgesGruppen - will provide industry insights on the practical steps that the organisation is taking to prepare for the legislation;
  • Kristel Tonstad, Policy Director, OECD National Contact Point for Responsible Business Norway - Will speak to the interrelationship between the new law and the OECD Guidelines and accompanying tools.

In the second part, participants will move into breakout groups facilitated by experts to better understand how to carry out due diligence (paragraph 4 of the Transparency Act). The breakout sessions will permit participants to walk away with a practical understanding of how to address the legislation in their organisations.

Caroline Dale Ditlev-Simonsen is Professor at BI Norwegian Business School. She has an international and comprehensive business and organizational experience in the areas of sustainability, corporate responsibility, business development in Africa, circular economy and happiness research. Previous work experience includes Project Manager, World Industry Council for the Environment, New York; Executive Officer, Norwegian Pollution Control Authority; Advisor, Kværner ASA and Vice President, Head of Community Contact, Storebrand ASA.

She has varied board experience and was a board member of WWF-Norway (World Wide Fund for Nature) from 2002 - 2008, member of Appeal Board for Norwegian Foundations (Stiftelsesklagenemda) from 2015 – 2019, member of the Norwegian Ethics Information Committee 2018 – 2019 and member of the Board of Trustees (Styremedlem) BI Norwegian Business School (2016-2020). She is also Co-Director at the BI Centre for Sustainability and Energy and Head of BI Forum for Foundations.

Ditlev-Simonsen holds a PhD in Leadership and Organization (BI Norwegian Business School), a Masters degree in Energy and Environmental Studies (Boston University) and a Bachelors degree in Business Administration (Simon Fraser University, Vancouver).

Research Areas
Sustainable Development, Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR), non-financial reporting, attitudes, behavior, change, leadership, effect evaluation of foundation contribution, happiness and communication. For an overview over her academic contribution, please see publications

Teaching Areas
Ditlev-Simonsen teaches innovation and strategy for sustainable business, circular economy and sustainable business in developing countries.

Bjart Thorkil Pedersen

Bjart Thorkil Pedersen is Manager sustainable sourcing/ Fagsjef bærekraftig handel at NorgesGruppen.

Bjart has a burning interest in the field of ethical trading and also a solid background from business, sales and logistics. He has a MSc from one of Europe's leading universities and work experience from UK, Bangladesh and Norway.

Bjart is also in the Ethical Trade Norway board and was awarded "The Ethical Firesoul of the year" (Årets etiske ildsjel) by IEH – Ethical Trading Initiative Norway.

Kristel Tonstad
Policy Director, OECD National Contact Point for Responsible Business Norway

Kristel is policy director, the Norwegian National Contact Point for the OECD Guidelines. She served as Head of Secretariat of the Ethics Information Committee, which presented a draft law on human rights due diligence and transparency in 2019. Tonstad has worked with human rights and responsible business conduct in the Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and served as a diplomat in Egypt. She has worked with the UN in different contexts and as an independent adviser on human rights and business. Kristel has a law degree from the University of Oslo and a Master in Public Policy from Harvard University.​
